The Kindergarten through 8th grade students of Eastern Elementary spent the week of Jan. 25 - 29 collecting change and health care items to benefit the people of Haiti. This was a learning opportunity that covered math, geography, current events, world news, and humanitarianism. No reward was offered to participating classrooms. The students learned that helping others and being a good citizen has the intrinsic reward of having done the right thing. In these tough economic times, our students and staff dug deep and found a way to show our neighbors in Haiti that Eastern Elementary cares. The students collected $200 in change and prepared 74 personal care kits in the five day period.
