Eastern buses will not run the following roads this morning: Keebaugh Follrod , Cherry Ridge, State Route 248 in Longbottom, Bigley Ridge, Dewitt's Run/Smith Ridge, East Shade, Locust Grove, State Route 124 in the Forked Run/Curtis Hollow area. Keep in mind there may be other areas that buses will not be able to get to today..

Tonight's Baseball and Softball games at Trimble have been rescheduled to Monday 5/6.

Eastern Local will start on a 2 hour delay Wednesday April 3rd. Watch for possible follow up information.

Eastern Local Schools will be dismissing at 2:00 this afternoon to help avoid students and busses being on the road during the anticipated storms this afternoon. If you have any issues or need assistance with this change please reach out to the office. All after school activities are canceled as well.

All games and practices for today are canceled due to the potential for severe weather.

JV Baseball vs. Athens, Varsity Softball vs. Warren, and Track @ Warren have all been canceled for this evening.

The Eastern High School Student Council and the American Red Cross will be sponsoring a blood drive on Thursday, April 4th from 8:00 to 1:30 in the high school gymnasium. All donors will receive a free t-shirt from the Red Cross and ice cream from the Student Council for donating! Again, there will be a blood drive on Thursday, April 4th from 8:00 until 1:30 in the high school gymnasium. The more donors we have, the more scholarships we can offer to our senior students. Thank you and we hope to see you there!

We would like to wish good luck to our spring sports as their seasons are starting. Softball opens up their season tonight at Meigs. Junior High Track heads to their first meet tonight at Meigs and High School Track will go to Meigs on Tuesday. Varsity Baseball will host Fisher Catholic tonight at 5pm. Congrats to JV and Varsity Baseball for their wins over Alexander in their home opener on Saturday.

Tonight's Varsity Softball scrimmage will now be played at Warren at 5:00pm.

Meigs County Schools Food Pantry drive through food distribution will take place Thursday the 21st at the Meigs Local Administrative office building (formerly Salisbury Elem.) at 41765 Pomeroy Pike in Pomeroy. First come, first served from 4:00-5:30 PM or until supplies run out.

Summer Bus Registration Form is now available on the Eastern Local Website at easternlocal.com . Please complete this form no later than May 1, 2024 if you would like your students to ride the bus to and from Summer School. The form is also available on the Eastern Ap, under Departments/Transportation.

Kids On Campus who has been a partner in the after school program at Eastern High School is offering a summer camp for students from June 17-July 19th. This camp held in the Grover Center at Ohio University includes breakfast and lunch, field trips, swimming, STEM, cooking and more and it is all FREE! There are bussing pickup options as well. The pickup points are based on enrollment so lets make Eastern a pickup point and get registered. Space is limited so hurry. Eastern 8th Graders will receive a tour of Meigs Vocational this Thursday from 8:30-9:30. All students are required to go as part of our career readiness curriculum. Also, all freshmen will receive additional career exploration and connection education from our Project-Rise partners in the cafeteria on Monday, 3/25. This will begin at 9:00AM and students will need to have their chromebooks charged and ready. We will do this in two groups to ensure students can ask questions and receive necessary support.

Current Events: Eastern Jr./Sr. High School students have had a lot of activities to celebrate over the last couple of weeks. Last week on Tuesday, Eastern's Choir and Concert Band put on a wonderful performance for our community in the high school gym. Both groups sounded fantastic and we couldn't be more grateful for all of the students' and Mr. Frey's hard work. A big shout out to the community for helping with the clean up afterwards as well. Additionally, Eastern 8th grader, Clay Buckley was selected and participated in the District 17 Honor Band over the weekend. Congratulations Clay! We also had our third student of the quarter luncheon last week on Tuesday. We celebrated the academic achievements of seniors Laikyn Davis, Abby Guthrie, and Kasey Glase courtesy of Ohio Valley Bank. Congratulations to all three of you ladies for your hard work and dedication! Student of the Month: Freshman Ashlynn Thomas was selected as the February student of the month for the Jr./Sr. High School. One Eastern Jr./Sr. High School staff member stated, "Ashlynn Thomas always has a positive attitude, is kind to her peers, and is a hard worker. She Is an ally to any student and sets the example of what Eagle Pride should be." Congratulations Ashlynn! Ashlynn won a $25 Walmart gift card as well. Attendance: Currently our Percent in Attendance Average Rate for grades 7-12 is at 90.9% for the school year. As an attendance incentive, we have a brand new in the box Android Tablet drawing prize for perfect attendance students for the month of March. We will continue drawing names for prizes every month for the rest of the school year as an added incentive opportunity for our students. We will also be doing a drawing for the third quarter perfect attendance students this week. It's always a great day to be an Eagle!

The Jr. High Dance scheduled for this evening has been canceled. A rescheduled date will be released next week.

Due to the power outage Eastern Local will be closed Friday March 15th.
