eclipse

Because of the upcoming full solar eclipse on the afternoon of April 8, 2024 Eastern Local will be closed that day.  The eclipse will occur in the afternoon during what would have been the time of our afternoon bus routes.  With proper eyewear it can be safe to view an eclipse, but close supervision is necessary, especially with young children.  Viewing an eclipse without taking proper precautions may result in retinal damage.  Closing also gives our students and families the opportunity to travel to other parts of the state in the zone of totality.  If you are traveling that day please be careful and make proper precautions and allow plenty of time for travel.  If you have any questions please reach out.

According to various reports and records, Ohio will experience a once-in-a-lifetime total solar eclipse for the first time since 1806.  Solar eclipses occur when the path of the moon crosses directly in front of the sun.  Many parts of the state will be in total darkness for a few minutes during the midafternoon.  The remainder of the state will see the sun at least 95% blocked by the moon.  As stated earlier, the last time any location in Ohio had this type of eclipse was in 1806, making this a novel experience for most Ohioans. Being in the path of this eclipse provides a unique opportunity for students and families.  In addition, traffic is expected to be a major concern across the state as the event is expected to draw millions of tourists from throughout the country and the world.

Travelers are urged to arrive early and stay late to avoid the heaviest traffic. Additional preparedness
