Attendance Matters! Attendance is an important focus for Eastern Elementary this year. If we want students to grow and learn, then we need students to be at school. Missing school adds up to lost instructional time. Missing a day of school here and there may not seem like much, but it adds up! Attendance + Instruction=Learning

AG Yost Encourages High-School Students to Apply for Teen Ambassador Board(COLUMBUS, Ohio) — The office of Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost is accepting applications for Yost’s Teen Ambassador Board (TAB) for the 2024-25 academic year.TAB – which is designed for high-school juniors and seniors from public, private, charter and online schools statewide, including home-schooled students – offers young people an opportunity to engage with state government officials and discuss issues affecting their lives.“This program allows Ohio teenagers to gain firsthand experience in law and government,” Yost said. “It's a chance for our future leaders to have their voices heard and to play an active role in shaping their communities.”Board members serve a one-year term, during which they convene twice in Columbus to collaborate and advise the Attorney General's Office on matters relevant to teens. The ideal applicant is a motivated, enthusiastic self-starter who has an interest in law and government, seeks to develop leadership skills, and wants to make a difference.Board members participate in small group projects, attend presentations, meet with Attorney General Yost, and interact with assistant attorneys general and elected officials. The submission deadline for applications – an application can be found here – is Sept. 22, 2024. For more information about the program, visit www.OhioAttorneyGeneral.gov/TeenAmbassadorBoard.Said Yost: “Don’t miss this chance to be part of a dynamic group of young leaders and make a meaningful impact on the state of Ohio.”

Mr. Frey our outstanding band director asked me to share that parents of students interested in joining 5th grade band should email Mr. Frey at hfrey@easternlocal.net If you haven't seen Mr. Frey and his outstanding band in action come to the football game Friday and watch the halftime show. The show is outstanding and would make anyone want to grab an instrument.

I recently had a couple of parents reach out to me about concerns at drop off and wanted to talk through them. I first wanted to say we as a team have met with and planned with multiple officials from the department of transportation, and transportation specialists from the state, as well as had multiple meetings with our team to look at possible strategies to make drop off faster, safer, and more efficient over the years and we continue to look at it and make adjustments even yesterday. Also understand we always want to prioritize safety. I had a parent say they were afraid their student would be tardy so they dropped them off in the middle lane to cross traffic. If traffic happens to be backed up we can remove tardies. Please take the extra time to be safe. Please understand too that with the start of school, those first couple weeks we have new families dropping off who don’t know the procedures yet. Please give them some grace as we try to help them learn the process. Some things that families dropping off can do to help: If you are dropping off in front of the elementary school please pull all the way forward to the yellow sign, or as far up as you can before you let your student out. This helps from keeping traffic backed up into route 7 which helps speed everything up. Parking and walking your student across traffic can slow everything down and is not as safe as dropping them off next to the sidewalk. Please do not drop off in the middle lane. As you exit from the High School Parking lot please use two lanes to exit. The lane on the right should be going North towards Tuppers Plains and the left lane should be for going South towards Chester. Families dropping off for preschool should not be on campus until after 7:45. We appreciate everyone's patience and understanding. Know that as a team this is something we have worked on the last few years and we are always looking for ways to improve. I will say that the fact that as a community we get close to 750 students in the buildings safely, with our limited space ,off of a busy highway during the morning commute consistently in less then 15 minutes is a testament to our staff and families and even the commuters on Route 7 who do all they can for our students. Thank you, and if you have any questions, concerns, or just want to talk please reach out. Nick Dettwiller Superintendent Eastern Local 740-667-6079 ndettwiller@easternlocal.net
